CEIP de Cervo was built in 1982-83 and expanded some years later. We have a library, a gym, school canteen and kitchen, various playgrounds, ICT classroom, Music classroom, a school journal and all classrooms have digital boards. There are 105 students in our school in which we teach three levels of Pre-Primary Education and Primary, so our students are three years old in the firts year and they leave at eleven. There are seventeen teachers, three of them shared with another school located in the same district. The children are taught all compulsory subjects such as: Art, Music, English, Spanish, Science, Maths, PE and Religion/Social Values. Moreover they are taught Galician Language and culture and some of the compulsory subjects are taught in this language too (as it happens in the other Spanish Communities that have a second language). We have students with special needs at the moment in all groups but two and they develop their studies together with the rest of the students. We try to help them better by reorganizing timetables so an extra teacher, together with the one in charge of the class, can support them. Our students are offered different sports activities organized either by the Local Council or the Parent's Association.
Most of the teaching staff are experienced, keen to learn and improve their teaching skills and methodology. Having such highly motivated staff allows us to cope with the different workshops, activities and projects that are developed every school year. Our school is famous for its implication towards the use and normalization of the Galician Language and Culture, together with respect for different languages and cultures. Through our library we organize activities which involve all the students and teachers throughout the year. The library is the centre of the school and its proposals vary from those related to Science, robotics... to the ones close to Literature, cinema, traditions, poetry... The school works together with the parents association, cooperates with the Local Council, charity associations, NGO, social actions, environmental development, etc.
The school develops different proposals every year and the whole staff and students get involved in them enthusiastically. We have experience in innovative projects and have already received awards for some of them. Our new challenge and desire is to open our school to others, from working close to our culture to working close to our European mates, expanding our actions and widening our minds.
